During the 60's and early 70's, as the war in Vietnam threatened its borders, a new music scene emerged in Cambodia that took Western rock and roll and stood it on its head-creating a sound like no other.

On April 17, 1975, after taking over the country, the Khmer Rouge began one of the most brutal genocides in history, killing 2 million people - 1/4 of the Cambodian population. Top 10 Lies told to Naive Artists and Designers

1 "Do this one cheap (or free) and we'll make it up on the next one."

No reputable business person would first give away their work and time or merchandise on the hope of making it up later. Can you imagine what a plumber would say if you said "come in, provide and install the sink for free and next time we'll make it up when we need a sink." You would be laughed at! Also the likelyhood is that if something important came along, they wouldn't use you.

2 "We never pay a cent until we see the final product."

This is a croc, unless the person is leaving the door open to cheat you out of your pay. Virtually every profession requres a deposit or incremental payment during anything but the smallest project. Once you have a working relationship, you may work out another arrangement with a client. But a new client should not ask you to go beyond an initial meeting and, perhaps some preliminary sketches without pay on the job!

3 "Do this for us and you'll get great exposure! The jobs will just pour in!"

Baloney. Tell a plumber "Install this sink and my friend will see and you'll get lots of business!" Our plumber friend would say "You mean even if I do a good job I have to give my work away to get noticed? Then it isn't worth the notice." Also the guy would likely brag to everyone he knows about how this would normally cost (X) dollars, but brilliant businessman that he is he got if for free! If anyone calls, they'll expect the same or better deal.

I need to start painting soon, I've been putting that off for quite some time now and after going to see a friend's art at an exhibition for one of the Under Pressure events, it's inspired me to get some of my old ideas out.

I really want some real life models so I don't feel so cheap using pictures from a magazine ad!

I'm happy I was able to at least draw this week-end. I need to work on my letterings, I mean jebus, I didn't even have enough space for the "S".

Funny how randomly motivation comes to you and how fast it can disappear. While listening to Jenny Lewis' song "Happy", I just haaaaad to start drawing. But then I went "fuck it" and just completed it with my usual quick scribbles that make my pen bleed. Nonetheless, I kind of like it. I wanted to make this in Illustrator... maybe when I have the time, it'd be pretty cool.

I woke up this morning wondering "hmm... what would be a funny thing to draw as a holiday wishing?". It's a bit late, but hey.

Hahaha... it disturbs me to think of myself as a pinup girl. Mission accomplished. I coloured it by hand... It's hard to make myself look Asian without the slanty eyes, but man, did I mess up my complexion. I'm not that yellow. I suck at colouring.

I'm going to be poor for the next two weeks. Yesterday, I ordered my pair of prescription glasses and they were not cheap at all. The entire thing costs me over 600 dollars. Fuckin' arms and legs, man. At least I have that taken care of... I'm looking forward to getting them as well as my pair of free contact lenses trial.

I've been reading some comic books lately after yet another long hiatus. Sandman is sooooo fucked up! Neil Gaiman is brilliant, I love it. I've heard people raving about it before, but I never understood the hype until now. Though I'm still at the introduction/beginning of the series, it's pulling me into it quickly. Merci tellement, Sylvie! C'est trop hot.

Now I want to go raid a comic book store, I have so many Marvel back issues I need to get and other comics from independant artists I'd like to look into as well.

How much sushi can two girls eat in one night? Man, it was awesome.

Spent some time at the LezPad before heading to Lounge. Got to sketch out part of the posse. Guess who these two are :D

Some people are just too ~~complicated~~ beautiful to be drawn *slap* :P

One funny thing tonight, it could've happen to anyone. Waiting in line for the washroom, a girl randomly blurts out "on attend toutes pour la même saaaalle" and I was like "... yeeep", then turned around hoping someone would come out. As I did, I felt something cold and pointy on my shoulder, I turn my head to look at what it was and it was her hair. She had rested her head on my shoulder! She looks up at me and says "'ey! T'es donc ben cool" and puts her head back on it. I got weirded out, and immediately walked into the room where the door doesn't close properly. Was she cute? No, I don't know, I was a bit too confused to take a good look at her.

Nice.

Oh, and I do believe I stepped on Sylvie's shoe. Smooth, real smooth.

I enjoy ending a radistic night with a huge smile on my face :)

I don't think I remember the last time I sat down and drew something. Rainy weather, oldies on the radio, a nice cup of green tea, my sketchbook and I... ah! I loves.

Now to do something cool with it :)

I love sketching with my Bic pen, no smudges and I love the visible mistakes, I have no patience for perfectly precised drawings. I also drew my friends :P but I won't post those here, so that will be an exclusivity only if you hang out with me :)

Tomorrow : Dim Sum with my parents at the President restaurant, shopping at Carrefour Laval and groceries at Maxi & Cie! How's that for precision and stalking information? Then, maybe later on, basketball.
